The Foundation for Madison's Public Schools was established in 2000 to raise funds, make grants for creative and innovative projects that enhance the educational experience for our children and develop partnerships throughout the community. Since it was established, the Foundation has granted close to $375,000 back to our schools for projects that are outside the core school budget and may not otherwise have taken place.

In addition, the Foundation has developed the Individual School Endowment Initiative, which is unique in the country. The initiative is designed to build an endowment fund for each of the 48 schools in the district, including Lapham-Marquette. To date, each school has established an endowment and 22 schools already have balances in excess of $20,000.

Annual income from our endowment fund is used to support creative initiatives and special projects at Lapham-Marquette that are not supported through the core school budget and might not happen otherwise. A grants committee consisting of staff and parents supervise disbursement of the funds which are available through an annual grant process. This year we have $1,374 in endowment income available to use to make grants. Last year we used the $1,250 endowment income available to fund a number of purchases and projects including the purchase of an Air Walker Therapeutic Swing, funding for The Linus Project, sponsoring a Native American guest speaker and implementing "Math Nights."

The Madison Community Foundation is so pleased with the success of the Individual School Endowment Initiative they recently made a $90,000 gift to the Foundation for Madison's Public Schools to bring the total of the Individual School Endowments to over $1 million. The gift is being made in the form of a challenge:

The Madison Community Foundation will provide 50 cents for every $1 raised (up to $3,750) for each school's endowment. When met, this will result in over $5,000 being raised for every school! All contributions will count towards meeting this challenge which needs to be met by December 15, 2007.

Thanks to the contributions and pledges of Lapham-Marquette teachers, staff and families, our endowment balance is $33,529. Our goal is to build our school's fund to over $40,000 by December 15, 2007. Please consider making a contribution to the Lapham-Marquette Endowment before December 15 as your gift will be increased by 50%.

Contributions may be made by completing the following pledge form and mailing it to the Foundation for Madison's Public Schools. If you prefer to use your credit card to make your contribution, please go to the Foundation's website at:
